ABOUT ME

MY PHILOSOPHY
Hello. I’m Tara Luca; doula and mother to three wild and wonderful little girls.

As a doula my goal is to assist you to have
a positive birth experience however you define it. I am there to hold the space, provide support, reassurance, advocacy and guidance in accordance with each woman’s individual desires.

For me, being a doula is about holding mothers and babies at the
centre of their own experience. I hope to ensure that no matter what course the pregnancy and birth may take, it is held with great reverence as a sacred right of passage. It will be remembered for a lifetime!
A doula paints a pregnant women's belly at a blessing way.

MY STORY
My own initiations into motherhood brought a huge awakening in my life about the importance of conceiving, birthing and raising our children in love.

Originally from Melbourne, I now live on the southern fringe of the
Rainbow Region in Northern NSW with my husband and our three daughters. We live a low impact lifestyle, off grid, on an intentional community with likeminded people including four generations of my husband’s family.

I haven’t always lived near family. For the first three years of my parenting journey I lived in relative isolation with little support. I spent my days trying haplessly to find the balance between meeting
my own needs and those of my new baby. It was a time of travail, experimentation and inner shifts. I felt our society was quite ill equipped for preparing women for the role of parenting and felt determined to find my own groove in the art-of-mothering.

Nine years on and I am still learning in leaps and bounds everyday.
My children continue to be my greatest teachers.

I am honoured and excited to now be emerging into the field of birth work. I obtained my
Doula Certification with Celebration of Birth in Byron Bay and have commenced working towards my goal of becoming an independent midwife through Southern Cross University.

Aside from
conscious birth, my passions include gardening, spinning wool, cooking Italian food and playing music.

I have a Bachelor of Contemporary Music and before having children I worked in the music industry promoting independent Australian musicians. I also toured and recorded extensively as a singer/songwriter, which I still occasionally do for love.
Music can be a nourishing tool for pregnancy, labour and parenting.

MY PERSONAL BIRTH EXPERIENCES
I feel fortunate that I experienced vast contrasts in my own birth experiences, each one being equally amazing and life changing. Some of these included:

Breech

External version

Induction

Emergency caesarian

Post dates

2 VBAC’s (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean)

Home birth

Water birth

Lotus birth

Siblings attending birth

I feel deeply humbled and honoured to share this sacred event with a new or expanding family.

Portrait of a mother providing a testimonial.
“Tara was so warm and genuinely caring. She made both my partner and I feel completely supported in the lead up to and the birth itself. She held the space for me to have the birth I had hoped for and I felt completely understood and supported in my birth choices.”

Portrait of smiling new family providing a testimonial.
“Tara has been such a wonderful emotional support in my first little love's fourth trimester. I have relied on her for practical advice and encouragement in the most challenging time of my life. She validated and supported my desire to lean towards attachment parenting and didn't once judge me when I raised strategies she didn't necessarily agree with. She listened to me at all hours of the night, was patient, compassionate and has such a passion for babies and their mamas. Tara's knowledge and experience has given me the confidence to follow my intuition. I have such a beautiful relationship with my daughter, which I attribute, at least in part, to Tara's selfless support.”
